From Google Play listings and vendor pages read on October 6, 2026.

1. Google Gemini: best AI assistant

Gemini is Google's assistant app for Android. Google's pricing page lists a free tier (Gemini 3.6 Flash, limited 3.1 Pro, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems), Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month, AI Pro at $19.99 a month and AI Ultra from $99.99 a month, with usage limits rising by plan. The Play listing was updated August 31, 2026, and its release notes mention a daily brief agent and newer Gemini models.

Google has said classic Google Assistant will stop being accessible on most mobile devices as Gemini takes over, while devices that do not meet Gemini's requirements keep Assistant. Google's announcement gives no exact cutoff date, and the dates we saw on other sites were not on a Google page, so we are not printing one.

Caveat

Several agent features sit behind AI Pro or AI Ultra, so the free tier is a smaller product than the headline features suggest.

2. Bitwarden: best password manager

Bitwarden's free tier covers unlimited devices, passkeys and a generator. Premium is $1.65 a month billed annually, or $19.80 a year, and adds the built-in authenticator, file attachments and security reports. Families is $47.88 a year for up to six people. The Play listing requires Android 10 or later and shows version 2026.9.0, while GitHub already has 2026.9.1 (October 5), so Play users receive updates slightly later.

3. Tasker: best automation, with a catch

Tasker is a paid automation app that runs tasks from triggers such as time, location and events. It costs $4.49 on Google Play and has no free tier on Play. The version 6.6 line added Shizuku support, a Java code action with a built-in AI assistant, offline sunrise and sunset triggers and more notification options. The Play listing was last updated February 24, 2026, and we found no newer release, so expect a mature app rather than an actively changing one.

4. Obsidian: best local notes

Obsidian stores notes as local Markdown files. The app is free, including for work. Sync costs $4 a month billed annually ($5 monthly), Publish $8 a month per site billed annually ($10 monthly), and a Catalyst supporter tier is a one-time $25. The Android listing was updated October 1, 2026 with the desktop 1.14.4 changes.

5. Snapseed: what we know

Snapseed is Google's photo editor. Its Play listing was updated October 2, 2026, and its current release notes describe Snapseed 4.1 with broader RAW support (DNG, ARW, RAF, NEF, CR3, ORF and PEF) plus undo and redo in tools. We could not confirm the price or minimum Android version from the listing, so check the Install button before downloading.

6. NordVPN: check the price yourself

NordVPN's pricing pages returned a block page when we tried to read them, and search snippets showed conflicting per-month figures, so we are publishing no prices. NordVPN's support page says plans come in one-month, one-year and two-year terms, with the one- and two-year terms paid upfront, and that prices are updated regularly. The Play listing was updated September 30, 2026 and reorganises the app's main tabs around connecting, protecting and monitoring.

Before you pay

Introductory VPN prices and renewal prices can differ a lot. Read the renewal price on the checkout page, not just the first-term price.

How we verified this list

We read Google Play listings, GitHub releases and vendor pricing pages on October 6, 2026. Play listings can lag a project's own releases, so we noted when GitHub was ahead. Facts we could not confirm are labelled and left out of the rankings.

Final verdict

Install Gemini if you want a single assistant and your phone supports it, and install Bitwarden if you want a free, open-source password manager. Pick Tasker if you are willing to build your own automations and are fine with an app that has not been updated since February. Obsidian is the best fit if you want your notes as plain files. We are not recommending a VPN price or a Snapseed price until those can be read from the vendor.

How We Chose

We compared 6 options for android apps — including Google Gemini, Bitwarden, Tasker — on features, pricing, ease of use, and value for the specific use cases called out in each section. Rankings weigh how well each option fits its named use case against what it costs, checked against each vendor's current published pricing. When two options tie on capability, the simpler and cheaper one ranks higher.

How to choose Android Apps

When evaluating Android Apps, the decision should not come down to brand recognition alone. A useful shortlist should match the reader's actual job to be done: the problem they are solving today, the budget they can defend, and the level of setup effort they can tolerate. For this topic, we prioritize search intent, total cost, ease of implementation, support quality, risks, and alternatives.

  • Start with the main use case: identify whether Android Apps is needed for daily operations, occasional projects, compliance, revenue growth, or personal productivity.
  • Check the total cost after trials or introductory discounts, including renewal pricing, add-ons, user seats, usage limits, and cancellation friction.
  • Look for proof of fit: integrations, support documentation, recent product updates, and enough third-party feedback to validate the vendor's claims.

Who this is best for

This guide is most useful for readers who want a practical answer rather than a generic list. If you are comparing Android Apps, use the verdicts as a starting point and then verify the features that matter in your own environment. The best choice for a solo creator, a small team, and a growing business may be different even when the headline score is similar.

A good final decision usually balances three things: whether the product solves the core problem, whether the workflow feels sustainable after the first week, and whether the pricing still makes sense after the first renewal period. If any of those are unclear, treat the tool as a test candidate rather than a default recommendation.

Editorial checklist

Before recommending a product, ProductsVerdict checks whether the offer is clear, whether the limitations are visible, and whether the buyer can compare alternatives without relying on a sales page. This keeps the article useful for search visitors who are close to making a decision but still need context.

Decision factorWhat to verify
FitDoes it solve the main use case better than a cheaper or simpler option?
CostAre renewal pricing, limits, and add-ons clear before checkout?
TrustIs there enough documentation, support, and user feedback to reduce buyer risk?
Use this checklist before choosing a product from any comparison article.

What does Bitwarden cost on Android?+

The app is free to use. Premium is $19.80 a year and Families is $47.88 a year, both billed annually. The Play listing requires Android 10 or later.

Is Tasker still updated?+

The Play listing shows version 6.6.20, last updated February 24, 2026, and we found no newer release as of October 6, 2026.

Is Google Assistant going away?+

Google has said classic Assistant is being replaced by Gemini on most mobile devices, but its announcement does not give an exact date, and devices that do not meet Gemini's requirements keep Assistant.

Which of these android apps picks is best overall?+

Google Gemini is our top overall pick — free tier plus AI Plus $4.99, AI Pro $19.99 and AI Ultra from $99.99 a month. The comparison above breaks down where each option wins.

What should I check before choosing Android Apps?+

Confirm the core use case, real monthly or annual cost, cancellation policy, support quality, and whether the product integrates with tools you already use. If possible, test the product with a realistic workflow before committing to a paid plan.

Is the cheapest Android Apps option usually the best?+

Not always. Lower-priced products can be excellent when the feature set matches your needs, but they may become expensive if you need add-ons, higher usage limits, or faster support. Compare total cost and workflow fit, not only the first advertised price.

How does ProductsVerdict evaluate Android Apps?+

ProductsVerdict looks at practical buyer signals: fit for the stated use case, transparent pricing, evidence of reliability, ease of setup, support quality, and whether stronger alternatives exist for the same budget. The goal is to help readers make a defensible shortlist, not simply repeat vendor claims.
